WHO ARE WE

Belmont United Methodist Church is a God-led, people-focused church located in the heart of Belmont in east Dayton, Ohio which exists to make new and growing disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and beyond.

The church is very active in the community. We currently have a food pantry, English-as a Second Language (ESL) classes, a partnership with local schools, and host various outside groups, including NA & AA groups. We are also available for weddings and rentals for birthdays, graduations parties, and other community events. In our building, all people are welcome. We strive to show radical hospitality to everyone who walks through our doors.

For many years, the church has been a vital part of the Belmont community. The church was founded in 1902 when the surrounding area was still young.  When the area started rapidly growing, some residents were concerned that there was no church. After going door-to-door and hearing there was interest in starting a church, a new church was formed. In 1904 the church stepped out in faith and was officially organized with 32 members. Fast forward only ten years later and there were 150 people attending weekly services!

Throughout its history our church has grown in membership and mission to become the church we are now. Today BUMC offers individuals and families a place to grow in their faith through a variety of worship services, Bible studies, and discipleship opportunities.

One exciting opportunity for the church in recent years has been to allow three other churches to use our building as their place of worship. This includes a Hispanic Pentecostal church, a Nigerian Anglican Church, and a Congolese Church. We now have five churches worshipping in different languages and styles in our building each week! And the energy and multicultural spirit is contagious!

Aside from that we support various missions around the country and around the world, from Redbird Mission in Kentucky and Henderson Settlement in Tennessee to missionaries in Latin American and Southeast Asia. We believed that we are all called to be on mission and spread God’s love to all people.

Belmont UMC is affiliated with the United Methodist Denomination, one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States. We are connectional church, meaning that we have relationships and doctrine that connect us with United Methodist churches around the world. As we continue to follow God’s call as a church we look forward to the future. We are excited for what God will do next and know that there is only one thing missing from our church: You! We hope you’ll join us for a visit soon!
